Wrexham CEO: Eriksen refused to join because he thought we signed him to make a documentary

Hupu November 05 News English Championship team Wrexham recently revealed the real reason why Danish midfielder Eriksen refused to join this summer.

After the end of last season, Eriksen left Manchester United on a free agency. Led by Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, Wrexham rose from England's fifth tier to the Championship and gained global attention with the documentary Welcome to Wrexham. The club hopes the 33-year-old Danish star can help secure their Championship status as they return to England's second tier for the first time since 1992.

However, Eriksen rejected Wrexham's invitation. The reason was not for competitive or salary reasons, but because he did not want his story to be included in the club's documentary. Wrexham CEO Michael Williamson revealed: "I contacted Ericsson's agent, and I was impressed by the reaction on the first call. They said, 'We don't want Ericsson's story to appear in the documentary. We have had many opportunities to film stories like this in the past.'"

Williamson said that Ericsson mistakenly believed that Wrexham's invitation was due to the subject matter of the filming, rather than the subject matter. Pure football reasons: "He thought we wanted to sign him because he could add interest to the documentary. I said, 'Wait a minute, that's not what we're doing at all. We're looking for players who can establish themselves in the Championship and have a real impact on the field.'"

After explaining the club's actual intentions, the two sides had good communication, but in the end Eriksen decided to go to the Bundesliga to join Wolfsburg.
