Teague thinks Whitmore is more likely to play efficiently against the Rockets than Jaylen Green

According to Chaitanya Dadwar, contributor of US sports media F/W. Jaylen Green and Whitmore are two promising defenders the Rockets let go this offseason. Green was traded to the Suns for Durant, while Whitmore was traded to the Wizards for two second-round draft picks and cash. Both players have publicly planned the revenge game between their respective teams next season against the Rockets. Jeff Teager believes that Whitmore is more likely to succeed in the Revenge game than Jaylen Green to surprise the Rockets, and he gives the perfect reason for this.

In the latest episode of his Club 520 podcast, Jeff Teague talks about Jaylen Green and Whitmore’s comments on the Rockets when making bold predictions. "But you won't be traded for KD. Whitmore was traded for cash, right? Second round picks or something," Teague said hilariously, reminding Whitmore that he was angry at something that had nothing to do with him. "No, when he hits them, he'll kill Houston...but I don't know if Jaylen Green will kill them. I'm hype about such a thing. Oh, he's competitive, like he'll hype for that. Do you see how he did Boston? Listen to Carey talking about it. When he left Brooklyn to get to Boston, he had Brooklyn's number. We have something for you, man."

Uduka is one of the main reasons the Rockets are considered a championship contender next season because he's changed their culture since his first day of joining the organization. Teague recalls Irving’s comments on Uduka and how he destroyed the Nets’ super team in the playoffs after leaving the coaching staff for just one season.

Tiger believes that Jaylen Green will taste Uduka's competitiveness when the Rockets face the Suns next season. Since Green was also considered one of the Rockets franchises before last season, he left a more important role on the team and failed to play at the highest level during the playoffs, Teague believes Uduka will likely want to show him how the Rockets have improved after he left. Meanwhile, the Wizards’ game is more likely not something the Rockets coaching staff will worry about, as Whitmore doesn’t leave a big role in the team rotation and appears to be forcing himself into the narrative of the consequences of Kevin Durant’s trade, and he is not involved.

Jaylen Green played all 82 games for the Rockets in the 2024-25 season, averaging 21.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. However, his performance fell sharply during the playoffs, and in the first round he averaged 13.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game despite starting in all games against the Warriors. Whitmore played only 51 games for the Rockets in the 2024-25 season, averaging 9.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game, while playing only 16 minutes per night on average. The Rockets never really let Whitmore prove himself that as a potential starter for the Wizards, he could have a better season than Jaylen Green.

Therefore, Jeff Teague believes Whitmore is more likely to surprise the Rockets with a solid 30-40-point revenge game, as Uduka will prepare the game plan for the Rockets every time they face the Suns. Teague's prediction seems more accurate to me, but we shouldn't underestimate Jaylen Green, because he seems to have a bigger bargaining chip on his shoulders than Whitmore. But the growth of the same potential new star Whitmore cannot be ignored.
