NBA rumor: Heat and Timberwolves are expected to trade Kevin Durant with Suns
NBA rumors say the Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to seek a deal with Kevin Durant in the offseason. As the second round of the 2025 NBA playoffs progresses, rumors surrounding Kevin Durant are becoming increasingly fierce. According to the latest report by Marc Stein and Jake Fischer on The Stein Line, the Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to seek a trade to the Phoenix Suns star in the upcoming offseason. Durant, 36, remains one of the top scorers in the NBA. In his 17th season of his career, he averaged 26.6 points, 6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.2 blocks per game, and in 62 games, he shot 52.7% from the field and 43% from three-pointers. Despite Durant's outstanding performance, the Suns failed to advance to the playoffs, and the season ended with a disappointing record and no lottery was signed in the 2025 NBA Draft. According to NBA insider Brett Segal, several teams including the Heat, Timberwolves, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks held trade talks with the Suns before the trade deadline. Durant and Devin Booker were reportedly involved in the negotiations, some of which focused on long-term development. The Heat and Timberwolves are expected to rejoin Kevin Durant's trade battle The Miami Heat have become a team worthy of attention. After a turbulent regular season, the Heat finally ended the regular season with a record of 37 wins and 45 losses, becoming the first No.10 seed team in NBA history to advance to the playoffs after two consecutive victories in the playoffs. However, their playoff journey was short and was swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round. Miami is considered a potential choice for Durant as the team needs a major scoring point and a stronger star. On the other hand, the Minnesota Timberwolves are on the run of the playoffs. After a regular season record of 49 wins and 33 losses, they entered the playoffs as sixth in the Western Conference. In Game 2, they beat the Golden State Warriors by an overwhelming advantage of 117-93 and are currently tied with the Golden State Warriors in the second round of the series. If the Minnesota Timberwolves fail to go further in the playoffs, management may reconsider previous interest in Durant. Earlier this year, reports were reported that the Timberwolves were actively chasing Durant before the trade deadline but refused to include the team's cornerstones Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels in the trade scope. Edwards is close to Durant, who played for the U.S. national team together and won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Suns are facing a critical offseason and the future development direction is unclear. Durant's future is expected to become one of the most concerned topics. If the Phoenix Suns explore the trade possibilities, both Miami and Minnesota Timberwolves are seen as strong contenders to renegotiate with the 15-time All-Star.
