Bellingham: Football is like this sometimes, you may not win if you play well, you need luck

Hupu, October 23: Real Madrid midfielder Bellingham was interviewed by CBSSport after the 1-0 victory over Juventus.

Well, first of all, congratulations. Another winning goal, it feels great. What went through your mind when you saw the ball finally go in?

Yes, thank you. It feels great, obviously I haven't scored so many goals for a long time and I've been dreaming about that moment, you know, to be back in the Champions League and to score the winning goal against a good team, it's unbelievable.

Now at home, obviously the first start of the season, I feel very comfortable, it feels very good, and to be honest, I'm really enjoying it. Yes, playing well is important, but scoring the winning goal also helps the team a lot.

I'm really happy, it was a great night.

Compared with last year, this is a big change. You know when Ancelotti coached, you performed very well. This season has been a bit of a struggle at times. What changes do you think this new coach has brought to you?

I think obviously the first year we played with Carlo, we played a lot of different formations and, you know, he likes to be flexible with the way he plays and the players he moves around. Yeah, I don't really know what exactly changed from year one to year two.

I think if I took the time to really think about it, I believe I could come up with some things about where I play and my own performance. I don't think last year was a disaster, I still had 15 goals, 14 assists, a lot of great moments, but I know there was a general feeling that it was worse, you know, but I think overall... Real Madrid feels different now, of course, you are different, you have more players, different players.

I was involved in that, you know, we didn't perform very well last season, you know, there were good moments, but not to the level that I wanted to be, you know, not to the first year level.

Now, obviously, I had shoulder surgery, I had a new coach, and he's adjusted and understood the way we want to play, and I think, you know, those changes have been helpful.

This is part of the process.

Yeah, it's part of the process, you know, you go through some years where you play well, but you don't win much, you don't play well, and then you don't have as much luck as we did our first year, and you have to learn from that, otherwise in a club like this Department, you will...

This kind of game, when you dominate, you know, sometimes you're a little bit risky and you have chances to score, but it gives you, as a team, that confidence that we can win every game even if we're not the best. Is this the feeling you're building to right now?

Yes, this is very important, very important. I think, like you said, one of the differences between last year and year one is that we had this feeling. Even in the latter stages of the Champions League, when we weren't playing well, we found a way to win.

We didn't do this last year. If we don't play well, we get punished, which sucks, you know.

And this year, like you said, we missed some chances today, but the important thing is, you know, we kept a clean sheet and only needed one goal to win. Of course, going forward, we want to play better and score more goals, but you have to start from there, you know?
