What a pity, after the Warriors were eliminated by the Timberwolves in Game 5, Curry admitted that he would participate in Game 6
Stephen Curry admits he is preparing for his comeback in Game 6 before the Warriors were eliminated by the Timberwolves in Game 5. The Golden State Warriors ended their 2025 NBA playoff journey with a 110-121 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of the second round of the series Tuesday night. While the game marked the end of the season, Stephen Curry revealed after losing that if the series extends to Game 6, his original goal is to make a comeback. Curry had a slight strain on his left hamstring in the first game and missed the rest of the series. The Warriors won the first game of the series but then lost four games in a row, the team's first four consecutive games in the playoffs led by head coach Steve Cole. After being eliminated in the playoffs, Curry said in an interview with The Athletic that he had the possibility of returning in Game 6. "Everything was ready for the sixth game. I did some tests and who knows what would happen, because I haven't been live since the first game," Curry said. "I was very optimistic when I first dealt with this injury, but there were a few checkpoints to pass. But that was just an assumption." Curry's absence dealt a major blow to the Golden State Warriors' offensive system and execution in the late game. The Warriors relied on Jimmy Butler III, Draymond Green and rookie guard Brandin Podzimsky throughout the series, but the blow from losing the star point guard was overwhelming. Stephen Curry reflects on the missed opportunities and looks forward to the transfer window with the Warriors core players in the next two years Curry was also asked about the future of the current core lineup - this roster includes his old teammate Draymond Green, head coach Steve Cole, and Jimmy Butler, who joined the mid-season. Their contract has two seasons left. "Yes, but I'm also looking forward to next year," Curry said when asked if he thought there would be a two-year contract window. "This leap reminds you that the team is still full of vitality and we've seen some unfortunate injuries, and nothing can guarantee that the team will stay competitive or become a strong contender. So, yes, our contracts are all me, Draymond, Steve, Jimmy - all two years. [We] hope this journey is as long as possible, but the key is what this team needs next year? Answer these questions in the summer." Curry added that the team needs to be prepared to spend a full season, rather than relying on a strong late-stage rush into the playoffs. "Everyone is preparing for the next 82-game season... Hopefully there is a more comfortable environment in the final stage without having to go through two months of hard training to get into the playoffs," he said. "So, that's what we're really focusing on now, and I'm excited about it because while there are still many decisions to make in the summer, the situation is clear." The Warriors are now entering a critical offseason, with many problems with lineup depth, youth training and long-term planning. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves will reach the Western Conference Finals for the second consecutive time.
