The man who caused Manchester United to lose millions of dollars is coming back! Join the FA and take control of football
Dan Ashworth will be appointed director of football operations later this week - after he found his tenure at Manchester United was cut by seven months. 54-year-old Ashworth had already won a good reputation in football during his tenure at the FA during his tenure at the FA. He then served in Brighton, the Premier League, where his work once again won wide acclaim, before working at Newcastle before being poached by Manchester United. He was eventually approved to join Old Trafford in July 2024, but only stayed in this position for five months. Manchester United paid a total of £4.1 million for introducing and termination of the former Newcastle sporting director. In March this year, it was reported that he had discussed the possibility of returning to the FA, and as the Telegraph first disclosed, an agreement has been reached. Ashworth has a wide range of responsibilities in his new position and is expected to start work "soon". It is outlined that he will take control of the FA's football affairs with FA CEO Mark Bringham. Overseeing the renovation of the national training facility known as "St. George's Park 2.0" will be one of the main projects Ashworth is responsible for, and his position in football has not been affected by his short and surprising tenure at Manchester United. The Red Devils are said to have "agreed to release Ashworth to work under his termination clause." The Mirror football page pointed out that the rising tension behind the scenes caused Ashworth to leave with the consent of both sides. One factor is the disagreement over Ruben Amorin's appointment, with Ashworth looking forward to other candidates rather than the former Sporting Lisbon coach. Since Ashworth's departure, United have not yet sought a complete replacement for him, with CEO Omar Berdeda and club technical director Jason Wilcox taking on more responsibilities. The statement confirming Ashworth's resignation at the time stated: "Dan Ashworth will leave the position of Manchester United Sports Director with both sides. We thank Dan for his work and support during the club's transition period and wish him all the best in the future."
