40% cuts! Manwan: After two rounds of layoffs, Manchester United s employees have been reduced from 1,100 to about 650
According to Manchester Evening News on May 23, Manchester United employees have reduced from 1,100 to about 650 after two rounds of layoffs.
Just less than 48 hours after the Europa League final defeat, Manchester United officials began notifying some employees in the club Carrington: they will be laid off. On Friday, some employees in football-related positions, including scouts and medical departments, were told they would lose their jobs, while job adjustments related to first-team affairs were postponed until the end of the season. According to internal news from Manchester United, most of the 200 employees expected to lose their jobs in the latest round of layoffs have been told that their situation is at stake. Some employees in football-related positions did not learn the final result of their fate until Friday, and the club did so in the hope of avoiding their help to be disturbed before the UEFA Cup final. With the end of the game, there is only one last Premier League game left this season, and the affected employees are being notified one after another, some of whom were told that their positions will be gradually cancelled and they will not continue to stay in the club.
Due to the missed Champions League, Manchester United's budget gap is as high as 100 million pounds. In the past five years, the club has lost more than 370 million pounds. The latest layoff plan has nothing to do with losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final, but is part of the previous plan. Since Inex took over club football operations in February 2024, after two rounds of layoffs, Manchester United's employee base has dropped from about 1,100 to about 650, making it one of a series of cost-cutting measures promoted by Sir Ratcliff.
